Dolphin

Dolphin Premier

The Premier is the old-school flagship: a three-hour cycle, a bottom-access multi-layer filter, a full-filter indicator and a three-year warranty, with no app at all. At $2,499 it costs more than most of the app-driven robots in this catalog.

Features

  • Three-hour default cycle
  • Bottom-access multi-layer filter
  • Full-filter indicator
  • Waterline scrubbing
  • Three-year warranty

What it does well

  • Three years of cover, one of only two corded Dolphins here with that term
  • Filter-full light, which the $2,999 Sigma lacks
  • Longest default cycle of any corded Dolphin here, at three hours
  • Multi-layer filter plus a fine kit in the box

What it gives up

  • No app or remote at $2,499, when the $999 CC Pro has an app timer
  • Filter opens from the bottom, so the robot has to be turned over to empty it
  • $2,499 — the Explorer E50 has app control and a top-loading filter for about half
  • In-ground only, while the cheaper E50 and S300 also take above-ground pools

The two lists above come from the maker’s own specifications and this site’s arithmetic on them, not from owner reports. Where owner discussion has been read it appears in its own section below, so the two are never mistaken for each other.

What owners say

Maytronics' long-running flagship, the Premier is discussed most by the ones who have had one for a long time: it keeps working, and its wear parts are cheap.

Its strengths are filtration and robustness. With the finer filter elements it handles dust and fine debris that coarser robots leave behind, and the leaf bag covers heavy fall. Its weakness is its age: the navigation is simpler than newer robots', and a buyer who expected modern path planning was disappointed.

Choose it for proven hardware and cheap repairs over app control, and pick filters to suit the season.

What owners like

  • With its finest filters fitted, owners describe it clearing a pool after a dust storm — one watched it remove a red-dust layer over a few runs until brushing turned up nothing.
  • Owners like having the leaf bag, standard and fine filters all in the box, and swap between them by season.
  • It lasts: one owner is on year nine in a freeform pebble pool and recently replaced the tracks and grip wheels for about $25.
  • It cleans floors, walls, waterline and steps in owners' accounts.

Common complaints

  • Its navigation is old-school: a recent buyer returned one because it went back and forth in straight lines and missed parts of the pool, and got no help from Maytronics.
  • It is not magic on fresh plaster dust — one owner in the southwest still found the pool visibly dirty after runs and was told to brush and let the filter work.

Questions owners ask about the Dolphin Premier

Is the Dolphin Premier good for dust?

Owners who fitted the finest filters describe it clearing a dust storm over several runs. One with new plaster found it less effective and was advised to brush and let the pool filter help.

What wears out on a Premier?

Tracks and grip wheels; one owner replaced both for about $25 in the robot's ninth year.

Premier or Nautilus?

Owners weighing the two point to the Premier's multiple filter options and longevity; the Nautilus line is about half the price and adds app control on some models.
